from The Bridge(published: 1930), poet's age: 31

And obscure as that heaven of the Jews,
Thy guerdon

Appearently the older Jewish books of the Bible
don't have a lot to say about heaven.
The reference to Jews, per se, alludes to their history and
reinforces Crane's theme of alienation and obscurity.

guerdon n.
A reward; recompense.

[Middle English, from Old French, from Medieval Latin widerdnum, alteration
(influenced by Latin dnum, gift) of Old High German widarln : widar, back, against. ]
